‘HOLDING ONTO ANGER IS LIKE DRINKING POISON AND EXPECTING THE OTHER PERSON TO DIE.’
ANGER!!!! – What COLOUR is your anger?
What do you do with your anger?
Do you hold your anger inside?
Can you let it out? If you do how long does it take before you let it out?
How do you let it out?
Do you explode?
Do you dull your anger with alcohol or drugs or another form of self-harm?
If you find it difficult to talk and retroflect (hold in) your anger and then for example drink to soothe your hurt this can be called an un-healthy adjustment.
Dysfunctional creative adjustments can then become a way of coping.
(Creative) adjustments are how we adjust in relation to our changing environment.
A healthy adjustment for example is if you were to suddenly feel cold and you decide to wrap up warm and put a jumper on.
However sometimes problems can seem much more difficult and far more complex.
If you feel your life is dysfunctional and you’re struggling to cope it can help to talk, you may feel relief if you can let it out (whatever it is); let it out and be heard – Kay Beardsley Counselling
